Rockland building collapses with workers inside

ROCKLAND, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - The latest storm proved to be too much for a sheet metal plant in Rockland and a recycling plant in Bridgewater. In both incidents, workers were in the building when it started to fall, and in both incidents, no one was hurt.  

In Rockland, the sides of the building collapsed Monday morning, trapping seven workers for a time. 

Captain Tom Heaney of the Rockland fire department tells FOX 25 that when the 911 call came in, people said they were trapped, but by the time emergency crews arrived everyone was safely out of the building. 

Workers said they heard a couple loud noises and then the building slowly came down.  

"Suddenly I heard a big hissing sound, knew right away what it was," said worker Jim Ricciarelli.

They said it was like a scene out of a movie because the building was literally coming down just as they were walking out. 

"I feel lucky, yes I do," said worker Mike Scolaro. 

United Sheet Metal is a family owned business at 333 Weymouth Street in Rockland. 

The building has been condemned. The workers aren't being allowed inside to get their things until it can be shored up, officials said.  

The other collapse happened in Bridgewater on Depot street. The roof of a metal hut collapsed. 

The Bridgewater fire department chief says that the business was open at the time of the collapse. Employees were in the area where the roof came down at 7 a.m., but no one was hurt.
